Am I Happy?
Posted by Doug | Filed under Uncategorized
Am I happy? That may seem a strange question to ask but that is the question that is posed on the Success Elixir website in a post about recognizing true happiness.
The site reckons that this is the first question you should ask yourself but, surprise surprise, they also say that first of all you need to find out what happiness means to you.
They article goes on to debate the aspects of materialism, how some people feel that thes emake them happy and also why such materialism generally does not create happiness.

Motivation – how to motivate yourself
Posted by Doug | Filed under zen habits
The Zen Habits blog has a post today about motivation and how to stay motivated to achieve your goals.
The post claims there are just two secrets to maintaining your motivation; make things enjoyable and use positive public pressure. I guess a person’s first response to reading this might be to say that some things aren’t always enjoyable but you have to do them in order to reach your goal. Also, not many of us, of course, are in the public eye as much as the author; so how could we use public pressure?
Well, the answers to these questions are in the post, so I’d suggest you pop over there and read it. I’ll simply give you clues here by saying that the public pressure could come from anybody – family, friends, neighbors, co-workers not just the public at large. As for making things enjoyable, well the author claims this is an alternative to those of us who fail to achieve goals through lack of dicipline, will-power or staying power. The author claims that it is not discipline that is required to achieve goals, it is motivation and that comes from maing things enjoyable.
All in all, this is a very thoughtful post and one which could help you if you have trouble sticking to your goals.

Creating a better quality of life
Posted by Doug | Filed under Ririan Project
The Ririan Project Blog has a post about creating better quality of life. Which is well worth a visit if you feel your life is not up to much at the moment.
The post basically suggests 5 tips for you, each of them good and worthwhile.
- Find out what makes you happy – which is a very true tip but one that is not always that easy to do.
- Spend time with your family and friends – again this is well worthwhile, my only caveat would be to ensure that the people you keep company with are positive people and help enhance your time with them. Sadly, we all know people who complain a lot or who bring us down in different ways.
- Never stop learning – yes and never believe that you cannot learn.
- Focus on what you need to do and get it done – I didn’t expect this one and, thinking about it, it makes good sense. Do make sure though that you prioritise what you need to do and do what is most important as a priority.
- Spend time each day gathering your thoughts and clearing your mind – another good point. This I guess is something that many of us have difficulty doing, perhaps because we feel guilty about apparently doing nothing or perhaps because we feel there is no time in the day for us to devote to such an activity. There is little doubt, though that this is a very worthwhile activity.
So there, you go, 5 tips from the Ririan Project Blog about making a better quality of life for yourself.
